LIFE Garachico (LIFE 20 CCA/ES/001641), "Coastal Flooding Adaptation to Climate Change through Flexible Strategies in Macaronesia Urban Areas”
The LIFE Garachico project (LIFE 20 CCA/ES/001641), "Coastal Flooding Adaptation to Climate Change through Flexible Strategies in Macaronesia Urban Areas", has a consortium of 11 partners, coordinated by the Vice-Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Change Climate and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The project was launched in 2021 and proposes the development of a Flexible Adaptation Strategic Framework for the coastal municipalities of Macaronesia, based on the evaluation of acceptable risk levels and specific interventions at the local level, in order to increase the resilience of these areas against current and future extreme coastal events due to climate change.
It is an innovative project where the differentiating element is found in the prominence that the local population of the coastal areas where it is developed acquires, for which the municipality of Garachico has been taken as a "pilot" area from which to export various tools and experiences. . The project has two replication areas, Puerto de la Cruz and Praia da Vitória, where different adaptation measures to climate change will be implemented, adapting the methodology developed in Garachico and which will demonstrate its capacity for replication to other places in Macaronesia and Europe. .
